My art work consists of Raku pieces, figurative sculpture, and functional stoneware pieces. The Raku pieces reflect the relationship between the dynamic forces of fire, clay, water, and air, and are a representation of this ancient Japanese firing technique. My sculptural work has been influenced by prehistoric art such as the Great Mother figures from the Neolithic period, as well as classical sculpture. I am particularly drawn to the feminine energy of the Celtic triple spiral, a symbol which is evident in much of my functional stoneware. Writing is another creative outlet for me, and I have published my fiction and non-fiction in magazines, small presses, and journals. In Spring 2009, I began teaching writing full-time at Eastern New Mexico Univeristy-Ruidoso. My gallery Jemez Mountain Pottery is open during the summer months and various weekends throughout the year. |
